Today, faculty members and students of the College of Nursing at Hawler Medical University gathered in unity to express their solidarity with the Kurdish people of Rojava, located in northern Syria.
The gathering comes in response to the ongoing acts of violence and terrorization targeting Kurdish civilians, which reports and eyewitness accounts attribute to actions carried out by the Syrian government and its affiliated forces. These actions have resulted in widespread fear, displacement, and serious violations of human rights, disproportionately affecting women, children, and other vulnerable populations.
As a healthcare and academic institution, the College of Nursing strongly condemns all forms of violence against civilians and emphasizes that collective punishment, intimidation, and military aggression against civilian populations are unacceptable and in violation of humanitarian principles.
We affirm our unwavering moral and humanitarian support for the people of Rojava and stand in solidarity with their legitimate calls for safety, dignity, and protection. The College calls for an immediate end to violence, accountability for violations, and international efforts to safeguard civilian lives and promote peaceful resolution.
The College of Nursing at Hawler Medical University remains committed to the values of human rights, justice, and peace, and joins voices with all those advocating for an end to suffering and the protection of Kurdish civilians in Rojava.
