The College of Nursing at Hawler Medical University successfully conducted a specialized academic workshop entitled “Advanced Basic Life Support (ABLS) in Obstetric Emergencies”, targeting third-year midwifery students. The workshop was organized under the supervision of Waheeda Abdullah Ibrahim, Assistant Lecturer at the College of Nursing, in collaboration with Mr. Rebeen Mohammed Qadir, Head of the Emergency Department at Rizgary Teaching Hospital and a certified medical trainer.
The scientific and practical sessions were delivered by Mr. Rebeen Mohammed Hariri. The workshop aimed to equip midwifery students with comprehensive theoretical knowledge, advanced practical skills, and enhanced clinical confidence to early identify maternal deterioration and to deliver timely, pregnancy-adapted basic emergency care and Basic Life Support (BLS).
Core components of the workshop included effective emergency response, appropriate escalation of care, structured teamwork, and application of evidence-based clinical guidelines to improve maternal and fetal safety during obstetric emergencies. The program emphasized experiential learning through hands-on training and realistic clinical simulations, enabling students to translate theoretical knowledge into safe clinical practice.
This academic activity reflects the College of Nursing’s sustained commitment to excellence in nursing and midwifery education, alignment with international healthcare standards, and the preparation of competent graduates capable of responding effectively to critical maternal health situations.
