World COPD Day 2025 – Educational Workshop at the College of Nursing

The College of Nursing at Hawler Medical University successfully conducted an academic seminar in recognition of World COPD Day 2025, held under the global theme “Short of Breath, Think COPD.” Led by Assistant Professor Newroz Ghazi Aziz, the session brought together academic staff to deepen their understanding of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and its significant public health impact.

The seminar emphasized that COPD remains the third leading cause of death worldwide, yet is still widely underdiagnosed. The discussion highlighted the importance of early identification, timely management, and heightened clinical suspicion in individuals presenting with persistent shortness of breath, chronic cough, sputum production, and recurrent respiratory infections, particularly among those exposed to tobacco smoke, indoor cooking fuels, or occupational hazards. Early diagnosis and intervention were underscored as essential for improving functional outcomes and enhancing quality of life.

Students from the College of Nursing also participated with great enthusiasm, demonstrating strong engagement throughout the seminar. Their active involvement reflected a genuine interest in respiratory health, preventive care, and global health awareness. Their presence enriched the academic environment and supported the seminar’s objective of fostering informed future healthcare professionals.

The College of Nursing extends its sincere appreciation to Assistant Professor Dr. Vian Al-Naqshbandi, Dean of the College, for her continued guidance and support in advancing impactful educational activities. The College remains committed to delivering high-quality academic events that strengthen clinical knowledge and contribute to community health advancement.
