This "silent pandemic" is primarily driven by the misuse and overuse of antimicrobials in humans, animals, and agriculture, accelerating a natural evolutionary process. The consequences are severe, making common infections increasingly difficult or impossible to treat, undermining modern medical procedures, and leading to higher mortality rates. Combating AMR requires a concerted global effort focused on preventing infections, using antimicrobials more responsibly, and developing new drugs to stay ahead of resistant pathogens.
