Mental Health and Psychological Support Services Policy

  1. Vision

To promote a healthy, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where all pharmacy students have access to appropriate mental health and psychological support that contributes to their well-being, academic success, and professional development.

  1. Mission

The Mental Health Services Office of the College of Pharmacy is committed to providing accessible, confidential, respectful, and non-discriminatory mental health and psychological support services for students.

The Office shall provide counseling, psychological support, mental health awareness, early identification of concerns, referral services, and preventive programs in accordance with Hawler Medical University regulations and applicable professional and ethical standards.

  1. Objectives

The main objectives of the Mental Health Services are to:

  1. Provide accessible mental health and psychological support to pharmacy students experiencing emotional, psychological, academic, or personal difficulties.
  2. Promote mental health awareness and reduce stigma related to seeking psychological support.
  3. Provide confidential counseling services in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment.
  4. Identify mental health concerns at an early stage and provide appropriate support or referral.
  5. Support students experiencing academic stress, examination anxiety, adjustment difficulties, personal problems, or other challenges that may affect their well-being and academic performance.
  6. Provide referral services to qualified psychologists, psychiatrists, physicians, or specialized healthcare services when additional assessment or treatment is required.
  7. Develop mental health promotion programs, including workshops, awareness campaigns, stress-management activities, and resilience-building programs.
  8. Ensure equal access to mental health services without discrimination based on gender, socioeconomic status, academic level, disability, or other personal circumstances.
  9. Protect student privacy and confidentiality in accordance with university policies and professional ethical requirements.
  10. Monitor and evaluate mental health services to improve their quality, accessibility, and effectiveness.
  1. Mental Health Services

The College may provide or coordinate the following services:

Mental health services should be available to all eligible pharmacy students.

The Mental Health Services Office shall maintain the confidentiality and privacy of students seeking support.

Information obtained during counseling shall not be disclosed without the student's consent except where disclosure is required or permitted by applicable law, university policy, or where there is a serious and immediate concern regarding safety.

Records shall be securely maintained and accessed only by authorized personnel.

  1. Referral and Specialized Support

When a student's needs exceed the scope of services available within the College, the Mental Health Services Office shall facilitate referral to an appropriately qualified professional or healthcare service.
